good advice
Heard this quote on NPR today and loved it....

Whenever you're right, shut up."

scary, creepy, crawly things that make you go "eeek!"
This weekend Curtis and I worked in our jungle of a backyard. I don't know how it happened, but our backyard literally turned into a jungle this summer. I closed my eyes for one second and a million weeds took over the garden....however, it may be possible that I never even stepped foot in the garden the entire summer. Anyway, our garden was consumed with weeds and became the perfect breeding ground for the millions of grasshoppers that have taken shelter there.
Unfortunately, grasshoppers weren't the only creepy things to invade our property.
I begged Curtis to kill the spider.
He wouldn't do it.
I didn't dare.
So...it's still taking up residency in the backyard.
It's disturbing, really.
Unfortunately, grasshoppers weren't the only creepy things to invade our property.
we also found the world's largest spider...in our own backyard jungle.
It was disgusting.
It was eating a ginormous grasshopper.
It was awful.
And gross.
And I hated so much that is was in my yard.
As the spider started moving and chomping on it's dinner, Curtis told me to film it.
Me, being the nice sweet wife that I am, took out the camera and bravely stepped close to the spider to begin filming.
Not one second later, Curtis ran his fingers up my back scaring the living daylights out of me.
After freaking out and dropping the camera, I regained my composure to continue filming. Just then, a giant grasshopper sprang past me, again, scaring the crap out of me.
Lucky for you, it's all on film.
Enjoy.

the little engine that couldn't
This is old news, but nonetheless, it is definitely worth sharing.
A few miles south of Thermopolis is a beautiful canyon called the Wind River Canyon. Many times throughout the year, this canyon will have a falling rock advisory, especially during the wet season.
This spring has been particularly wet. A few weeks ago a huge rock fell on the railroad tracks that run through this canyon. The result was this:

The rock was the size of a pick-up truck and caused a train to derail into the Wind River.

The locomotive engineers (I know my train vocabulary) had to climb out and swim to safety. They were alright, however, they did suffer minor injuries and hypothermia.

Several thousands of gallons of diesel fuel (I've heard 8 to 15 thousand gallons) leaked into the river. Crews worked to contain and siphon what fuel they could from the river. Luckily the town's drinking water was secured.

Pretty crazy, eh.
Here's a video clip of the canyon. It's really quite spectacular.

just one example of why Curtis is so awesome . . .
Below is a series of emails that took place between Curtis and JackLinks.com :
To: Jack Link's Jerky
Subject: JackLinks.com SpeakUp Submission
Category: I have a product issue I'd like to tell you about.
Question/Comment:
While I like Jack Link's Beef Jerky, I was extremely disappointed this weekend as I watched a UFC fighter which your company sponsors make a jackass of himself and your company. He was extremely rude to the fans (which includes me) and because of that I can no longer buy your products if any portion of my money spent on your product will benefit him in any way. As of right now, I will no longer be purchasing your products, and will do my best to tell others not to as well. Should your company decide to revoke your sponsorship of Brock Lesnar, I will again start buying Jack Link's products.
Thank you.

that says a lot about your company. Please send me an update in the
future and let me know when your company decides to pull your
sponsorship of Lesnar, so I know when I can start buying your jerky
again, and "mess with sasquatch". I really like your products, but
can't justify the purchase knowing any money I spend on your products
may somehow benefit Lesnar.
Cheers,

Curtis is the bomb!
I'll have to let you know what transpires from this. If you want to be the bomb too, you need to email JackLinks and tell them to get rid of Lesnar.

rain. [update]
In my previous post I mentioned how the rain was making it difficult to mow our lawn. I think I may have left out the part about our foot-tall dandelions taking over the yard.

Today our neighbors asked me if we needed help with our lawn.
e-m-b-a-r-r-a-s-s-i-n-g.
I decided it was time to finally mow the lawn...in the rain.

Hair: short vs. long
This is the great thing about having short hair....

Not to mention the money I save on shampoo/conditioner and my electricity bill for the decreased blow-drying time. Short hair is awesome!
[The free-cycle is awesome too. I just gave away all of my old hair stuff to someone who was happy to take it. I didn't have to feel bad about throwing it away and I was able to save someone some money.]

Don't bug me...I'm eating
Have any of you ever had a $6 burger from Carl's Jr? Well I have (just tonight actually) and it was delicious! We just got a new Carl's Jr. in town and we got some coupons in the mail for a FREE Guacamole Bacon Burger with the purchase of one Guacamole Bacon Burger. We couldn't pass up a great deal so we (I) headed to Carl's Jr to pick up some burgers to eat while we watched the BYU game. So, with our handy dandy coupon, we got 2 $6 burgers for $5.50. Wohoo! I came home with the burgers and we literally scarfed them down. They were SO good! But now, we are both really sick. Curtis has heartburn and I feel like barfing. I don't discourage against the delicious Guacamole Bacon Burger, I would only suggest that one take it slowly, no need to inhale the burger. Also, it may be wise to just buy 1 and split it with your significant other. If any of you happen to have this same coupon, here is what I would suggest...get a group of 4 people and head to Carl's Jr. Buy one burger and get one free. Then you can split the 2 burgers between the 4 of you. I promise it will be enough food for all of you. Then if you split the bill ($5.50) it is only $1.38 a piece. Pretty good deal, right?

i am...
i am: human
i think: too much about things
i know: anything is possible
i want: a baby
i have: the best husband ever
i dislike: my lack of confidence
i miss: the taste of pepsi…I’ve recently given up caffeine
i fear: something bad happening to Curtis or someone in my family
i feel: happy…and a little stressed
i hear: the water running outside
i smell: my bowl full of watermelon…yummy
i crave: lately, watermelon
i usually: second guess myself
i search: for Curtis’ wallet, car keys, belt, cell phone, etc almost every morning
i wonder: what the future holds for me
i regret: every time I have ever been mean to anyone
i love: my family
i care: what others think of me
i always: laugh at Curtis’ jokes
i worry: about everything
i am not: a good singer…at all!
i remember: the day I married Curtis. My life has never been the same.
i have: the best family
i dance: around the house
i don’t always: do what I should
i argue: rarely
i write: “jen (heart) Curtis” on my notes at school
i win: the best husband contest
i lose: my mind sometimes
i wish: I had a perfect body
i listen: to music all day at work
i don't understand: why people do what they do
i can usually be found: somewhere close to Curtis
i am scared: of getting in another car accident
i need: Curtis, family and friends
i forget: how precious life is sometimes

Bloggers Block and Pretty Flowers
I want to blog (mainly because I am bored), but I have bloggers-block and I just can't think of anything to blog about :-) So, instead of filling this space with a bunch of nonsense, I thought I'd just post a few pictures. These flowers are in our yard by the side of our house. This is our first spring/summer in this house, so these flowers were a nice surprise...we didn't even know we had any in our yard. Hope you enjoy!
Oh yeah, one more thing...thank you all so much for sharing your memories of me. I had so much fun reading them and laughing out loud. They were all so nice and also so funny. So, thanks...you guys are all the best!!

Public Service Announcement
So, I just bought a new blow-dryer after my previous one died. This was the warning in the instructions (and I quote)...

Many of you may not have thought about the dangers of blow-drying your hair while you are sleeping, so I just wanted to do my part and put this out there. I don't want any of my dear friends getting hurt:)

Funny Birds...
Last week we bought an old Toyota pick-up truck from a fellow law student. Just like every old Toyota pick-up, this one has its fair share of rust.
The other day, Curtis noticed a few birds hanging out around his truck. He went to inspect what was going on and it seems as though a family of birds have made one of the rust holes their new home. Curtis removed the nest only to have the birds rebuild it the next day. Every day Curtis removes a bunch of twigs and grass from the hole. The darn birds just won't give up. We are just worried about a bird laying eggs in there and then us driving the truck away and destroying all the eggs. Otherwise, we would just leave the nest alone. It makes for a funny story though.

Funny Blonde Joke
My dad emailed me this joke and I thought it was pretty funny....so I thought I would share the laughter....
A blonde woman was speeding down the road in her little red sports car and was pulled over by a woman police officer who was also a blonde. The blonde cop asked to see the blonde driver's license. She dug through her purse and was getting progressively more agitated. "What does it look like?" she finally asked. The policewoman replied, "It's square and it has your picture on it." The driver finally found a square mirror in her purse, looked at it and handed it to the policewoman. "Here it is," she said. The blonde officer looked at the mirror, then handed it back saying, "Okay, you can go. I didn't realize you were a cop."

Go Jazz!!
I love the Utah Jazz and I am so glad they are having a good season...finally!! Before we moved to Laramie, Curtis and I were able to go to several Jazz games each season. (Thank you Speirs, Ike, and Buck!) Sadly, we haven't been to a Jazz game in the last 2 years. Oh how I miss those good old days of eating at Crowne Burger and then walking to the Delta Center and watching the hustle and bustle of AK-47, Carlos Boozer, Deron Williams along with the rest of the Jazz!! At least they seemed to be hustling most of the time:) I've always loved the Jazz... even during their not-so-good seasons. I hope they continue out this season with wins and go all the way this year!! Go Jazz!!

Just 1 More Week!
Just one more week until new episodes of The Office are on....and oh am I excited! The darn writer's strike really put a damper on my Thursday night TV watching. I'm glad it is finally over and that some decent shows will back on the air. I especially love The Office and I've been waiting a long time for it to start back up. I know some of you are bored with Pam and Jim, but I just love them together and I never want them to break-up:) I was sooo happy when Pam finally got rid of Roy and Jim got rid of...what's her name?? Then it finally happened...they finally confessed their love for one another. Curtis just rolls his eyes about their relationship, but I absolutely love it:) So everyone, tune in on Thursday night, sit back, and enjoy!
