I have loved watching the Beijing Summer Olympics!! It is always an exciting time to see the world come together and compete in these games. Of course my favorite part of these games has been watching Michael Phelps...holy cow!! He is super-human...what an amazing accomplishment....8 gold medals! I love that his mom was there to see everyone of his gold medal wins and I love especially that she cried at every single one. What a great mom and a great support she is to him.
Next to swimming, I have loved watching beach volley ball and the women's gymnastics. Kerri Walsh is AMAZING. I love watching her play. I also love Shawn Johnson...she is so cute and she too is amazing. Way to go USA.Now, an unrelated update regarding yesterday's garage sales...
Every Saturday morning, Curtis gets up super early and plans out our garage sale route. He makes a list of at least 20 garage sales for us to go. He means business! I'll admit, I am never as excited as Curtis about getting up early on Saturdays and going from house to house and looking through all of their junk. However, I usually always find something great and that is what keeps me coming back the next week. Yesterday we found all sorts of great deals. We got some awesome, practically new, silicone baking pans (which I have been wanting), a new tea pot (which I have also been wanting), a heavy duty frying pan, and a beautiful glass salad bowl. We got all of this stuff for super cheap too!
Also, yesterday I found the funniest things at one of our stops. Only those of you who went to Viewmont will find this funny though. I was searching through a bunch of CD's for sale and saw one that said Michael Murphy. I thought to myself, "ok, now this can't be the Michael Murphy I'm thinking of." I picked it up and yep, it was totally Mike Murphy from good ol' Viewmont High School. Too funny!
Continuing on with our garage sale experiences...it is funny how cheap people are at these sales. We have seen people offer 25 cents for something that is marked $2. And the people usually accept it...crazy! Curtis and I will make it a goal to bargain and offer less than asking price at some of our stops. I have found that if I ask how much something is and then act like I'm trying to decide if I want it, the people always lower their price. A couple weeks ago, I was looking at some pants that someone was selling. I asked the girl how much they were and she said, "ummm, I don't know...4 bucks...2 bucks...whatever you think." I then continued to look at them and didn't say anything to her. Then she said she would sell them to me for 1 buck each. So, I picked out 2 pair that were my size and carried them around with me while I looked at other stuff. Then I started looking at this cute purse and was debating with Curtis as to whether I should buy it or not. The girl then said to me that I could have the 2 pairs of pants AND the purse for 2 bucks. "Deal!"
Curtis and I are thinking of writing a book or making some kind of movie about garage sales. The people we see at these sales are SO funny! It can be embarrassing at times when we see the SAME PEOPLE every week at most of our stops. Sometimes I think to myself..."oh no...are we becoming like these people?" I hope not! And I honestly hope that this whole garage sale phase of ours is just a Laramie thing and will stop once we move. One can only hope. :-)
